Dr Onwe is a member of Electrical Power Research Group at Newcastle University. He received his PhD in 2017 from The University of Dundee United Kingdom and his thesis dwelt on Renewable Energy Systems Designs and Assessment. His research interest is on Renewable Energy Systems integration with Energy Storage Systems. During his PhD he developed a software tool for modelling and simulation of solar-hydrogen energy systems. His tool considered hydrogen-cooking as an efficient means of utilising the hydrogen produced. He is currently a Research Associate at Newcastle University working on the ReLiB project, investigating the reuse of second life lithium-ion batteries in other alternative applications, which involves;
- Developing an experimental test bed for the second life battery testing
- Cycling the batteries under second life use cases
- Carrying out analysis and assessment of suitable Battery Management System for second life application
